HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Senior quarterback Travis Lane (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) has been named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by the Consensus Draft Services. Lane is coming off an impressive junior campaign in which he was named First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-State.
In his first year as the starting play caller, Lane passed for 3,338 yards, 28 touchdowns and 18 interceptions on 272-of-420 accuracy (64.8%) in 11 games. Lane's 3,338 passing yards is the fourth highest single season total in school history. Last season, he also scored three rushing touchdowns on 131 net rushing yards. The junior led the ODAC in passing yards (the second-highest passer was over 1,000 yards below Lane), touchdowns (28), completions (272), yards-per-game (303.5 ypg), and total offense (315.4 ypg).
Last season, the Tigers finished the regular season 9-1 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. Lane returns along with eight other offensive starters in hopes of winning the school's seventh ODAC Championship. The Tigers open up 2011 at home as they host Averett University on September 3. Kick off is set for 1:00 pm.
