Baseball's Johnson Named AACBL Pitcher of the Year

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Hampden-Sydney rising junior Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville, VA/Essex) earned the All-American Collegiate Baseball League (AACBL) Fireman Award given to the league's top pitcher.

Johnson played for the Carolina Freedom, pitching in ten games and making eight starts. He posted an impressive 0.65 ERA in 41.2 innings pitched. He went 7-1 with two saves, while his seven wins are a league record. Johnson struck out 35 and walked seven.

He picked up one of his saves in the league's Championship game, pitching the final three innings while helping the team to a 7-5 victory over the Mooresville All Americans. 

The pitcher and outfielder had a great season for the Tigers as a sophomore, appearing 11 times on the mound with a 4-1 record and five starts. In 40.1 innings worked, Johnson posted a 2.01 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 16 walks. He was also solid at the plate, batting .368 with 14 hits, including one homerun. He batted in eight runs and scored ten of his own.
