Five Tigers Earn All-ODAC, Hamlett and Carneal First Team

FOREST, VA-Five Tiger baseball players were honored with All-ODAC awards, including junior left fielder Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) and sophomore second baseman Lee Carneal (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) who were named to the First Team. Junior first baseman Jeff Gray (Newport News, VA/Menchville) was named to the Second Team, and senior third baseman Hunter Lewis (Newport News, VA/Menchville) and junior right fielder Spencer Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) earned Third Team honors.

Shenandoah took home three major awards with starting pitcher Darrell Thompson, third baseman Michael Paul, and head coach Kevin Anderson winning Pitcher, Player, and Coach of the Year, respectively. Randolph-Macon's catcher Nicholas Maiolo was named the Rookie of the Year, and John Macon Smith of Guilford earned ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.

Hamlett is having an outstanding season for the Tigers, starting in all 40 of his appearances while recording a hit in 38 games, including a school record of 35 consecutive games, stretching from February 10 to April 21. He led the team in the regular season with 60 hits and currently stands with a .364 batting average. Hamlett currently leads the team with 16 stolen bases and three triples. He also has ten doubles and one homerun, while having scored 42 runs and batted in another 23.

Carneal had a stellar start to his career in his first year with the Tigers. The sophomore is batting .378 with 51 hits in 135 at bats. He finished the regular season strong, going 8-for-13 (.615) with four doubles in the final full week of the regular season. For the year, 12 of Carneal's 51 hits went for extra bases with ten doubles and two triples. He's currently fifth on the team with 28 runs to go with 21 RBI.

Gray picks up his third All-ODAC honor, and the junior has continued his consistent career with a .344 batting average. He's amidst his second consecutive season with at least 50 hits, knocking 54 in 157 at bats. He currently leads the team with 38 RBI and is second with 13 doubles and 18 walks. Gray has also scored 32 runs, hit three homeruns and two doubles.

Lewis earns his second All-ODAC honors this season, and the third baseman is having his best season at the plate, batting .376 with 59 hits. This season, he broke the school's career hits record, standing with 177. He has scored 27 runs and batted in another 28 this season to go with seven doubles and one triple. In 157 at bats, he has only struck out eight times.

Wiles is another Tiger who has had a record breaking season, breaking the school record for doubles in season with 22. He has also tied the single season high mark for hits at 62 after going 3-for-4 in the Tigers' first game of the ODAC Tournament. He has had a monster season at the plate, batting .392 while also leading the team with 46 runs. He's batted in 31 runs and knocked two homeruns.
