LYNCHBURG, VA-The second-seeded Hampden-Sydney baseball team rebounded in the 2013 ODAC Baseball Tournament with a 3-1 win over sixth-seeded Roanoke College. With the win, Hampden-Sydney (22-16-1, 13-7 ODAC) stands at 1-1 in the tournament and Roanoke (18-21, 10-10 ODAC) has been eliminated. The Tigers know they will play tomorrow at 2:30 pm but wait to see if they will play Shenandoah, Washington & Lee, or Randolph-Macon.
The Tigers claimed the victory behind a strong eight and one-third innings from junior Hunter Lewis (Newport News, VA/Menchville). Lewis allowed just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Senior Luke Rabiej (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) then picked up his tenth save of the year, retiring the final two batters of the game.
Roanoke's Brian Kluge led off the game with a single and scored the Maroons' lone run of the game.
The Maroons held that 1-0 lead until the seventh inning, when the Tigers strung together four hits and two walks to drive three runs across the plate. Nathan Chamberlin (Chesterfield, VA/Virginia Wesleyan) led off the inning with a single was later driven in on a Jack Elliott (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) RBI-single. Patrick Kuhns (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) then followed that up with an RBI-single that scored Andrew Tucker (Fincastle, VA/James River). Elliott later scored the insurance run on a Lewis RBI.
Tucker tallied a game-high three hits while Hamlett recorded two.
