HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball team had its five game win streak snapped on Sunday afternoon in the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament finale with an 11-3 decision to Frostburg State. The Bobcats improve to 6-3 overall while winning all three of their games during the weekend. Hampden-Sydney falls to 7-7-1 on the season.

The Tigers have been red hot from at the plate recently, but were held to just six team hits. Patrick Kuhns (Stafford, VA/North Stafford), Jeff Gray (Newport News, VA/Menchville), and Jack Elliott (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) each recorded two hits. Gray also scored two of the team's runs while Elliott scored the third.

Frostburg State recorded 18 hits with Rob Jennings leading the team on a 4-for-5 performance. The Bobcats scored a run in the first, third, and fourth innings, and then exploded for eight combined runs in the fifth and sixth.

Hampden-Sydney crossed the plate in the third inning. Elliott and Kuhns led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) drew a walk to load the bases. Hunter Lewis (Newport News, VA/Menchville) then reached on a fielder's choice but was able to bat in Elliott.

In the sixth, Gray hit a one-out double and was later brought home on an error by Ryan McGuigan. Gray scored again in the eighth when a wild pitch allowed him to score from third.

Freshman Teddy West (Lanexa, VA/Warhill) started on the mound and took the loss after allowing five runs - four earned - on nine hits in four innings. Matt Hinson (Kinston, NC/Arendell Parrott Academy) allowed five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings, and Josh Blair (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) surrendered one run on four hits in 2.1 innings. Billy Nixon (Sedley, VA/Southampton) then pitched a shutout in the ninth.
