Tigers Eliminated From ODAC Tournament After 7-2 Loss to Bridgewater

LYNCHBURG, VA-The second seeded Bridgewater College Eagles defeated sixth seeded Hampden-Sydney 7-2 behind a complete game performance from Joseph Lucas in the eighth game of the 2012 ODAC Baseball Tournament. With the loss, the Tigers end their season 14-27 while the Eagles will face fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon later tonight, and the winner advances to championship Sunday to face top-seeded Lynchburg.

Bridgewater wasted no time getting ahead scoring three runs in the first and adding four more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

In between, Hampden-Sydney loaded the bases in the second inning, but was unable to score.

They were able to cross the plate in the fifth with Patrick Kuhns (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) batting in Christian Hamlett (Midlothian, VA/Cosby).

Hampden-Sydney then built upon its run with Andrew Tucker (Fincastle, VA/James River) hitting an RBI-double to score Beau Flinchum (Ashland, VA/Hanover).

Kuhns and Flinchum each recorded two hits while the Tigers had seven knocks as a team. Tucker and Hamlett each hit doubles, and Zeb Cope (Advance, NC/Davie County) also recorded a hit.

Devon Snow had three of the Eagles' ten hits, and all three were doubles. He also scored two runs and batted one in. Jay Thompson also recorded two hits.

The Tigers' Garrett Birnbaum (Moseley, VA/Cosby) takes the loss after pitching the first one and one-third innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks. Kyle McKay (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) surrendered four runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.

Dalton Renick (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) went 3.1 innings with no runs on two hits while striking out two and walking three. Luke Brunot (Chesapeake, VA/Atlantic Shores Christian) then pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing no runs and no hits.
