HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball team enters the final week of the regular season with five games in five days. The Tigers kick off the action at home with a Tuesday meeting against USA South foe Methodist. Hampden-Sydney then hits the road to make up a postponed double header against Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. After two day's rest, the team returns home to wrap up the regular season against Bridgewater with a Saturday double header. Tuesday vs. Methodist: The two teams will meet for the first time this season. The Monarchs have just been eliminated from the USA South Tournament with losses to Christopher Newport and Averett after a 2-0 opening win against Ferrum. The team is batting .257 as a team with Trey Such batting a team-high .367. On the bump, the team boasts a 4.20 ERA, and Rusty White (1.14 ERA) and Chris Perry (1.67) posting a combined 10-1 record to lead the team.
Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan: The Tigers head to Virginia Beach to face the Marlins (7-20, 3-11 ODAC) in their penultimate double header. The Marlins most recently swept Washington & Lee by scores of 8-4 and 4-3 on Saturday. Before Hampden-Sydney comes to town, Virginia Wesleyan will square off with the Apprentice School on Tuesday. The team is batting .273, and the pitching staff holds a 7.38 ERA.
Saturday vs. Bridgewater: Hampden-Sydney will honor seniors Zeb Cope, Mikey Riva, Jordan Wind, James Shahayda, Allan Brownell, Nick Caporale, and Erick Herrmann in their last home game. The Eagles stand second in the ODAC at 25-11 overall and 11-5 in conference. The Eagles split a double header against Guilford on Saturday, falling 9-8 before winning 5-1. This week, they will face Catholic on Tuesday before travelling to Hampden-Sydney. The team bats .319 and holds opponents to just a .266 average.
